Welcome!

My name is Candice! I am a wife and mother. Since my early days in college, I have always been the person to have a camera nearby to capture random moments. I had the film (or a disposable camera!) ready and loaded to take pictures of pranks we played or my roommates and I dolled up for a party. It was not until after my daughter was born in 2007 that I wanted to take picture taking to the next level. I wanted to learn how to turn my pictures into artistic memories. On Mother’s Day of 2008, my husband surprised me with a brand new shiny Canon DSLR. Photography quickly became an obsession and passion!

Forgive Me

...I am late. Very late. I know. Better late than never, right?

What kind of camera do you use?

Currently, I shoot with a Canon 50D. Canon is the only way to shoot!!

How do you balance family and photography (and everything else!)?

A supportive family is key! Sometimes I feel like I have 4 jobs, but I keep pushing on. When you’re passionate about what you do…(family and photography)… it is not hard to balance it all.

How do you describe your style?

I describe my style as "clean and simple with a modern twist". Less is more is one of my favorite mottos. Therefore, I tend to shoot clean and simple images. I spice my sessions up by using different crops and angles.... you might just catch me laying on the ground for a shot. I am not afraid to have my subjects look away from the camera. I tend to be very laid back while shooting. I like to have fun and engage in small talk while shooting to help my subjects relax for a natural look.

What program do you edit with?

I currently edit with Adobe CS5. I hear great things about Lightroom but I haven’t had the courage to try it out yet.

What advice do you have for a mom that wants to improve their snapshots?

Get on their level, fill your frame, turn off your flash (when you can) and eliminate distractions in the background. When framing your shot, just take a few steps forward or zoom in a little. After all, the picture is about your subject and not all the stuff around your subject. Another way to eliminate distractions in the background is to simply throw a solid blanket over a car seat if your subject is an infant. When you can, take images outside using natural light. Sit your subject in open shade facing out (under a tree, on the shaded side of your house, ect.). The even shade will be pleasing on your subject and you’ll get good catch lights in your subject’s eyes from the sky.

What’s on your Christmas list?

Too much stuff to name!! My photography "Wish List" is never ending….

Speaking of Christmas and because this is a photo blog, I will leave you with this....
